Teachers in rural Chester County district bring Halloween to their students

Partners Post, November 2014

For many of the students of the Owen J. Roberts School District in rural Chester County, trick-or-treat night presents serious safety concerns. Students going from house to house must walk along dark streets without sidewalks. Teachers, concerned about their students' safety, came up with a creative way to bring Halloween to their students.

Dozens of teachers volunteered their time and money to host a "Safe Trick-or-Treat Night" that brought out more than 1,000 members of the community. The kids enjoyed Halloween games and treats, and parents had the opportunity to talk with teachers and sign up to become Partners for Public Education.

"It feels a lot better, more safe, and more fun for the little kids," student Emma Kircher told WFMZ-TV Channel 69 News.
